I love hosting dinners!  Hosting is something that our entire family enjoys all year round, and getting pieces that will make my table look exquisite and unique really excites me.  With our tableware that is created by artists who are designing more than just a plate to eat on, every piece has been designed to make a lasting impression on the guest at your dinner party.  They are something that will instantly bring a smile to the face of the hostess and the guest at a formal or informal gathering.  They add pizazz and inspiration to any tabletop!

We are always approached by clients who are looking for unique gifts for their high profile customers. Some of these gifts are targeted at CEOs who literally can afford anything. They want to know what will constantly remind the recipient of them. The gift also should not be chucked aside.

Here are a few tips:

If you are giving to an individual, it will be best to give him something that he can use or like. For example, think about “what is his hobby?”, “What is his favourite colour?”, “what does he have (or not have) on his desk in the office?”

Even better, personalize it to ensure that he remembers you everytime he sees or uses your gift!

My client, Ho Printing, has done this subtly by giving a notelet holder which was exclusively designed for them. The bamboo on the holder is associated with good fortune, success and wealth in the Chinese culture, which is linked to the plant’s quick growth and longevity. Additionally, the Bamboo plant has become the traditional symbol for friendship in India.

With the company logo located on the design, it reminds the recipient about the giver.

To further add a touch of exclusivity and personalization, the name of the receipient is printed on each notepad paper sheet. The gift was not expensive, but much thought has been put into it.

Before attending your friend’s wedding, I suggest you have some understanding about the culture of Peranakan wedding!

The wedding ceremony of the Peranakan is largely based on Chinese tradition and you can say that it is one of the most colorful wedding ceremonies in Malaysia and Singapore. At the weddings, the song “Dondang Sayang” is well known by all and it will normally be played during the ceremony. It is a Malay song with a beautiful rhythm and they are danced by guests at the wedding party. Someone would first begin the dance with a romantic theme which would be carried on by others, each taking the floor in turn, dancing in slow motions as they sang. It requires quick wit and often creates laughter and applause when a particularly clever or witty phrase is sung by the guests.

So be spontaneous and do not be afraid to dance along if Dondang Sayang were to be played during the wedding ceremony!

19th Feb 2010 is a very special day for me.  My tiger son – Nathaniel was born.  Everything about him is precious.  As a tradition to cut his hair on the first month, I kept his first curl in a lacquered round box with the “tiger” in mother of pearl on the box – perfect for welcoming my baby to the world!

I have never seen Wing so happy before, and I am just as happy for her. The wedding is beautiful, held in Melbourne, Australia in a small church, and reception at a little country motel next to the church. Simple but elegant wedding. Wing decided on giving away the lacquered candle holders as wedding favours to all her guests. We packed the candle in a little sachet, with a very personal message thanking everyone for sharing the special day with them. Every guest took away a piece of memory of the wedding.

I went up to London on 2 February, the worst day to arrive, as it faces the worst weather conditions in 20 years.

This is to see my best friend, Chi Hung. She married Martin, a British and they now have 2 beautiful children, Timothy & Rachel. I truly enjoyed their hospitality staying with them for 5 days. Apart from the Chinese New Year cookies that I brought up for Chi Hung (which she truly missed, and the children enjoyed!), I wanted to give her something really special.

They have just finished renovating their house last year, but many walls remained empty. I thought, what makes a better gift to thank them then to give them a handpainted portrait of the family? We got the photo with the family got a friend to take. So finally after 2 months of sending to my artist the portrait to be replicated, it is finally completed. I am really happy the way the artist has defined the expressions of all the members.

So for a gift that is totally unique, I suggest giving a customized painting. This will really make your receipient say “Wow”.
