River Tales Collection

By Kenneth Lee • QUA x ART:DIS

ABOUT THE COLLECTION

The River Tales artwork masterfully portrays the timeless beauty of Singapore's landscapes. This captivating piece showcases the iconic Singapore River, offering glimpses of the old landscape that includes the historic Collyer Quay from 1971.

Let us be inspired by the vibrant spirit of Singapore, where tradition and modernity co-exist in perfect harmony.

Collyer Quay holds a significant place in Singapore's history, having served as a vibrant waterfront entrance that facilitated trade activities and contributed to the city's early growth. In a delightful contrast, the artwork also captures the modern-day landscape, highlighting the well-known architecture that has become an integral part of Singapore's identity.

This seamless interplay between the past and present evokes a deep sense of reflection, symbolising Singapore's remarkable journey of progress while cherishing its rich heritage. The artwork is a poignant celebration of Singapore's transformation, where some buildings along Collyer Quay have been thoughtfully refurbished and preserved to maintain a harmonious blend of old and new. It serves as a testament to the city's commitment to honouring its history while embracing the advancements of the present.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Kenneth Lee

A young talented artist from ART:DIS' artist-in-training programme, Kenneth specialises in incredibly intricate linework which translates beautifully onto our lacquer products.

From the young age of 5, Kenneth has taken an interest in drawing and sketching different objects. Today, he is a young and innovative budding artist with autism and shows a great passion for art, where he is able to express his creativity. Often found drawing on a piece of paper, Kenneth creates breathtakingly detailed monochrome sketches that showcase his mastery of perspective and spatial design. Each of his works is a skillful combination of scenes that occur in real life and his imagination.

Kenneth takes great joy in seeing his artworks displayed and seen by the public. His most cherished ambition is to become a full-fledged artist, an ambition that is also supported by his parents. Today, he is one step closer to achieving his dream – he has proudly earned the Certificate in Visual Arts, a testament to his talent and hard work.

Socially Responsible Gifts

At Qua, we are deeply committed to supporting meaningful causes in Singapore and the non-profit organisations that work tirelessly to make a difference.

We extend our CSR efforts by showcasing the talent of artists with disabilities, while fostering greater awareness and appreciation for their creativity within the wider community.

QUA x ART:DIS

We have been collaborating with persons with disabilities (PWDs) since 2011, creating a revenue stream for them through their art. In doing so, we immortalise their creations, allowing them to sell more than just one painting at a time.

We were the first in Singapore to work with the Pathlight School, and are now, we collaborate extensively with ART:DIS (Arts & Disability Singapore) to introduce a collection of gift premiums featuring the artwork from ART:DIS’ Arts for Livelihood and Employment (ALIVE) Programme.

All artists earn royalties from the sale of their merchandise and artwork commissions.

About ART:DIS

ART:DIS is the leading non-profit charity organisation dedicated to providing opportunities for persons with disabilities (PWDs) to be involved in the arts sphere. ART:DIS works to create and provide access and opportunities for PWDs through the arts. It promotes visual, performing and literary arts through various programmes and events for PWDs.

ART:DIS has also established pathways for them to progress and excel in their fields and pursue a career in the arts. It created Singapore’s first inclusive theatre and first inclusive literary art programme and was founded and launched by Ambassador-at-Large Prof Tommy Koh.
